Resources

The best way to keep your dog safe, is to keep your dog.

Due to overwhelming demand and limited resources as a small rescue organization, we are currently not accepting applications for owner surrenders.

Please look through the various resources listed below, as these are often solutions to the most common reasons for wanting to surrender a dog.
Email info@brickcityrescue if you are in need of a recommendation for a unique situation not covered by the resources below.

Training

We work closely with several excellent dog trainers to address socialization, anxiety, fear, aggression, resource guarding, reactivity, recall, leash training, and modification of various behaviors. Please contact one of our recommended trainers if you feel your dog could benefit from training.

Financial

Insurance

Getting pet insurance proactively while your dog is young and healthy can be a great way to mitigate costly medical bills down the road if your dog gets sick or injured. Most pet insurance will not cover pre-existing conditions, so we recommend signing up for a plan as early as possible. There are many pet insurance providers out there, but some of volunteer recommend the follow:

Food and Supplies

If you are having difficulty keeping up with food and supplies for your dog (or cat), please check for a local Little Pet Pantry in your area. Brick City Rescue supplies the Little Pet Pantry in Clifton and other towns may have similar resources. Local shelters sometimes receive donations that they are not able to use themselves, so it can be worth a call or visit to find out if they can spare what you may need. Local Facebook town groups and buy/sell nothing groups can also offer some food and supplies at times. Please be careful and exercise caution when accepting food from an unfamiliar person, we do not recommend serving your pet from an open bag of food out of an abundance of caution.

If you are still having difficulty getting the supplies you need, please email info@brickcityrescue.com with a subject "Food/Supply Assistance" and we will do our best to help.

Temporary Housing

At times we have been contacted by owners who wish to surrender their dogs in response to moving or temporary medical conditions that hinder their ability to care for the dog. In these cases we recommend boarding your dog if a friend or family member is not able to care for them during these transitional times. Please see the list of resources in the Financial Assistance section if you require funds to boarding.
